VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-US CITIZENS
1. Valid Passport
Applicant must submit their current, signed passport. Visas are stamped into a passport, therefore the original passport is required.
2. Visa Application Form
Applicant must submit one completed visa application. Applications should be printed single-sided and signed in blue or black ink only. Click here for the application form
3. Passport Photo
Two recent 2″ x 2″ passport photos of the applicant is required: Please click here for photos guidelines or to take a photo using your smartphone and submit it online.
4. Proof of Travel
Applicant must submit a computer-generated itinerary from a travel agency or online booking tool (such as e-confirmation from an airline or Travelocity, Orbitz, etc) showing the departure from the U.S. and arrival/departure for Japan.
5. Proof of Residency
Applicant must submit the ORIGINAL valid Alien Registration Card (Green Card), U.S. visa, or other proof of legal status in the United States, with permission for re-entry. We can only process visas for an applicant who legally reside in the U.S.
6. Leave of Absence
Applicant must submit a letter affirming a leave of absence provided by the employer. If the applicant is a student, the applicant must provide a letter from the university affirming a leave of absence.
7. Proof of Finances
Applicant must submit three most recent bank statements.
Applicant must show on most recent statement sufficient funds to support themselves during the visit (generally this equals $100 USD per day in the country).
Bank statement should be originals, although printouts of online statements are often accepted.
In addition, while not technically required, the applicant is HIGHLY advised to submit the most recent W-2 form from previous tax year to avoid delays. This document is very often requested by the consulate.
